Testcontainers alternatives
12 other tools do this job. Which one is right depends on why Testcontainers is not working for you — so start from the reason, not the list.
Why teams leave Testcontainers
- Requires a Docker daemon in CI, which not every environment provides.
- Container startup adds seconds to each test run unless reused carefully.
- Heavier resource usage than in-memory alternatives.
Worth saying: Testcontainers is genuinely strong at this — tests run against the real database engine, so dialect and behaviour differences surface early. If that is the part you rely on, switching may cost more than it saves.
If cost is the problem
Free tools and lower starting prices on the same billing unit. Usage, plan limits and maintenance can change the total cost.
