Faker
Generate realistic names, addresses, dates and text for fixtures, in any language.
What it is
Faker (Faker.js, Python Faker, Java Faker and siblings) generates plausible fake data — names, addresses, emails, company names, lorem text, dates — with locale support so your test data looks like your actual market. It is the default building block for test fixtures and seeded development databases.
Best for
Where it is strong
- Realistic, locale-aware data catches layout bugs that 'test test test' never will.
- Seedable, so generated data is reproducible when a test fails.
- Available in every major language with a similar API.
Where it falls short
- Generated data has no referential integrity or business rules — that is your job.
- Random data makes failures harder to reproduce unless you seed deliberately.
- Not a substitute for production-shaped data at realistic volume.
