Gretel.ai
Discontinued as a standalone product; the technology now ships inside NVIDIA NeMo.
What it is
Gretel trained generative models on your data to produce synthetic datasets that preserved statistical relationships while providing formal differential-privacy guarantees. NVIDIA acquired the company in March 2025 and has since retired the standalone service: gretel.ai now redirects to NVIDIA, and the capability lives on as the NeMo Data Designer and NeMo Safe Synthesizer microservices, licensed through NVIDIA AI Enterprise rather than sold self-serve.
Best for
Where it is strong
- Formal differential-privacy guarantees rather than best-effort masking, now via DP-SGD in NeMo Safe Synthesizer.
- Synthetic data preserves statistical relationships useful for analytics and model training.
- Backed by NVIDIA's platform investment rather than a single startup's runway.
Where it falls short
- No longer buyable as Gretel — you are procuring NVIDIA AI Enterprise, which is far heavier than the old self-serve signup.
- Model training adds time and cost compared to rule-based masking.
- Safe Synthesizer trains on a real dataset, so it does not help with greenfield data that does not exist yet.
