LocalStack alternatives
12 other tools do this job. Which one is right depends on why LocalStack is not working for you — so start from the reason, not the list.
Why teams leave LocalStack
- No longer open source: the Community edition is end-of-life, the repo is archived, and running it now requires an account and auth token.
- Using it in CI counts as commercial use, so the free tier does not cover the case most teams want it for.
- Emulation is not identical to AWS; some behaviours and IAM semantics differ.
- Many services are Pro-only.
Worth saying: LocalStack is genuinely strong at this — integration tests against aws services run offline in seconds at no cloud cost. If that is the part you rely on, switching may cost more than it saves.
If cost is the problem
Free tools and lower starting prices on the same billing unit. Usage, plan limits and maintenance can change the total cost.
Faker
Test Data & Mocks
Generate realistic names, addresses, dates and text for fixtures, in any language.
Mock Service Worker
Test Data & Mocks
Intercept requests at the network layer so your app code never knows it is mocked.
Prism
Test Data & Mocks
Turn an OpenAPI document into a mock server that validates as well as responds.
Hoverfly
Test Data & Mocks

If you need open source
LocalStack is proprietary; these are not.
Testcontainers
Test Data & Mocks
Real databases and services in throwaway Docker containers, per test run.
