WebdriverIO wraps the WebDriver protocol in an opinionated Node.js framework with its own runner, reporters, services and a large plugin ecosystem. Unlike raw Selenium bindings it ships waiting, retries, parallel execution and reporting out of the box, and it can drive mobile apps through Appium with the same API. Recent versions also support the Chrome DevTools protocol for faster local runs.
