Specmatic
Turn OpenAPI and AsyncAPI specs into executable contracts and smart mocks.
What it is
Specmatic treats your API specification as the single source of truth: it verifies that a provider implements the spec, generates a mock that conforms to it for consumers, and fails the build when either side drifts. Unlike consumer-driven contract testing it requires no coordination ritual between teams — the spec is the contract.
Best for
Where it is strong
- Spec-driven rather than consumer-driven, so it needs far less cross-team process than Pact.
- The same spec produces both the provider test and the consumer mock.
- Covers async messaging (Kafka, AsyncAPI) as well as HTTP.
Where it falls short
- Only works if your specs are accurate and maintained.
- Smaller community than Pact, with fewer worked examples.
- Primarily JVM-oriented tooling.
