Biome
Rust-based linter and formatter that replaces ESLint and Prettier, very fast.
Code QualityOpen sourceSelf-hostable
What it is
Biome is a single Rust binary providing formatting and linting for JavaScript, TypeScript, JSX, JSON and CSS, typically an order of magnitude faster than the ESLint plus Prettier combination it replaces. One tool, one config file, no plugin resolution.
Best for
New JavaScript projects and teams frustrated by lint performance.
Where it is strong
- Dramatically faster than ESLint plus Prettier, which matters on pre-commit hooks.
- One binary and one config replaces two toolchains.
- Very good ESLint rule migration tooling.
Where it falls short
- Rule coverage does not yet match ESLint's plugin ecosystem.
- No support for framework-specific plugin ecosystems at ESLint's depth.
- Young project, so expect churn.
