Feature checklists rarely decide anything. What decides it is the pricing metric, who has to write the tests, and which limitation you can live with.

The metric that actually scales your invoice.

Priced by team, with unlimited guest reporters on most plans — important if clients file bugs.

Effectively free — you are already paying for GitHub, and Issues adds nothing.

Adoption

Established

Marker.io · since 2015

Category standard

GitHub (Microsoft) · since 2009

Strengths

  • Automatic technical context removes the single biggest cause of wasted triage time.
  • Non-technical reporters need no account in the destination tracker.
  • Issues land directly in the tracker developers already use.
  • Zero additional cost and zero additional integration to maintain.
  • Automatic linking between commits, pull requests and issues.
  • Issue forms enforce the reproduction detail that makes bugs actionable.

Limitations

  • Web only — no native mobile capture.
  • Requires embedding a script, which some security teams will question.
  • Adds a per-month cost on top of your existing tracker.
  • No native severity/priority model — you build it from labels.
  • Reporting is weak; there is no real analytics layer.
  • Poor fit for non-technical reporters who do not have GitHub accounts.

Best for

Agencies and teams where non-developers report bugs regularly.

Engineering-led teams already on GitHub who want one fewer tool.

All of these integrate with: Jira, Linear, Slack.
